Kyoto Prayer Beads Making Workshop
Craft Your Own Zen
with 200+ Options of Gemstones & Wood Beads
Don't just string beads—infuse meaning into every step.
Create a one-of-a-kind prayer bead bracelet with a master artisan's finish.
A tangible piece of Kyoto’s peace to take home.
A Place to Touch the Spirit of Japan Through Your Hands
Beyond a simple workshop, this is a quiet encounter with the spirit of Japan.
Through the mindful handcrafting of Kyoto prayer beads (juzu), you will touch the essence of wabi-sabi—the subtle beauty of natural materials and the connection flowing through generations.
We offer a Zen-inspired moment of stillness and presence. Here, deep meaning naturally unfolds through the simple act of making—creating a serene and enriching time for your heart.
It’s Not What You Make, but How You Make It
Stepping away from the rush of modern life, we invite you to create not with haste, but with intention. As you pick up each Juzu bead, feel its weight and texture. With every bead you thread, imagine infusing your personal thoughts and prayers into the circle.
This process is more than simple assembly; it is a quiet ritual of giving shape to the invisible. Once every bead is threaded, this becomes more than an accessory—it becomes something truly irreplaceable.
Kyoto’s Mindful Craft: Your Intention, A Master’s Finish
Select from over 200 varieties of gemstones and wood beads to design a reflection of your inner self.
While you thread the beads with your own hands, the defining difference at KORIN lies in the final step. A skilled Kyoto artisan takes over to perform the intricate finishing knots and attach the tassels.
This collaboration between your personal sentiment and a master’s technique ensures your Juzu is not just a DIY souvenir, but an authentic, enduring piece of Kyoto craftsmanship.
Flow of the Experience
Just a 5-minute walk from Gojo Subway Station, you can enjoy a hands-on Kyoto Juzu (Buddhist rosary) crafting experience at Kyoto KORIN, an authorized retailer of traditional Kyoto Juzu. We also offer a special course that includes a guided visit to an actual Juzu workshop—a member workshop of the Kyoto Juzu Manufacturing Cooperative, where authentic Kyoto Juzu are made. During the session, a certified Kyoto Juzu craftsman will explain the cultural background and meaning behind the beads in an easy-to-understand way, while guiding you through the entire crafting process. Choose from over 100 types of gemstones and materials, select your favorites, and create your own personalized Juzu together with the craftsman. The experience lasts 60 to 90 minutes, allowing you to choose a course that fits your travel schedule. Craft your one-of-a-kind Kyoto Juzu and take it with you as you explore the temples and shrines of the ancient capital—a memorable way to connect with Kyoto’s spirit and craftsmanship.
